Nothing about open forum has been shortened - in the current bylaws, the SSFC and Student council have 45 minutes for Open Forum, and the Finance Committee have a 20 minutes. In the new draft bylaws/financial code, that's exactly the same (though obviously, it talks about the Senate and Appropriations, not the SC and SSFC).

Are you just looking at the Finance Committee section by mistake, and not the Appropriations section?

How come open forum has been shortened to 20 minutes with each speaker getting 2 minutes? That is often a valuable tool to clear up any misconceptions discovered in between a budget hearing and decision.

How can we give suggestions about the bylaws at the meeting tonight if the bylaws aren't going to be released until after the meeting?

After speaking this morning with the Student Elections Commission Chair, Katie Tondrowski, it appears the dates of the election will be moved to the following Monday and Tuesday, February 23 and 24. The Student Judiciary will likely approve these dates this Thursday, January 29.

I am extremely disappointed to see ASM pick the 17th as one of the dates for the vote. While I can't speak for any of the four Madison Common Council District 8 campaigns, anyone with ANY experience working local political campaigns will tell you having students bothered about multiple votes they truly know little about -- spare me the "we're going to educate them" schtick -- will suppress the desire to turn out voters. Waiting one week would not kill ASM.
